Mufti Abdul Qayyum Mansoori who was arrested in connection with an attack on Aksharadham temple in 2002 was exonerated by the Supreme Court. He was declared a terrorist by the Gujarat Police. He was imprisoned for more than 11 years. He has compiled a book consisting of the atrocities of the police. This book is entitled “11 years behind the bar”. It is published in Urdu with Gujarati translation.
Mr. Qayyum told that by writing this book the tale of a victim would be exposed. The special court had sentenced him for life imprisonment and High Court had also upheld it but the Supreme Court exonerated him. He was charge sheeted under POTA. Mufti Qayyum is a teacher of a school. He was arrested when he was distributing relief to the riot victims at Masjid Daryapur. In this book the atrocities of the police let by DG, Vanzara and Singhal. In the first 50 pages, it has been mentioned that how police recording their confession statement forcibly and a threat was given that his family would be ruined and women of his family would be molested. However, the sympathetic attitude of the officials and the prisoners of Sabarmati Jail has also been mentioned. He said that Jail Superintendent and Mr. Bhat treated him respectfully.
