Spectacular finishes highlight Akurei Gym's mixed martial arts show

Knockouts and tapouts were in plentiful supply on Combat Challenge North East’s second mixed martial arts show.

Six of the 11 bouts promoted by Grangetown, Middlesbrough gym Akurei finished early as fighters collided in the centre of the cage at Hartlepool Borough Hall.

And none were more dramatic than in the main event as Glasgow wrestler Kieran Malone knocked out Hartlepoool’s Ash Griffiths after 13 seconds of the first round with a clean left high kick.

Middlesbrough Fight Academy’s Harry ‘The Wizard’ Hardwick celebrated a winning professional debut in the other pro bout.

Hardwick had a successful amateur career which saw him win and defend the Made4thecage UAR featherweight belt.

The 20-year-old dropped down to bantamweight to make a successful pro start, defeating Sunderland’s Chris Telford by unanimous decision.

Thornaby’s Kieran Lister and his opponent Shaun Luther brought identical records of six wins and one loss to their UAR lightweight title match.

And it was Luther who left it victorious as he outwrestled the wrestler to win a unanimous decision.

Hartlepool CCA southpaw Brad Nelson beat Akurei’s James Donnelly by split decision to win the UAR welterweight title after a closely-contested bout that was mainly fought on the feet.

Bradford’s Kyle Lester kicked off the show and a run of three straight stoppages with a third round triangle choke finish of Middlesbrough’s Adam Todd.

Middlesbrough Fight Academy’s Mansoor Sidiq and Akurei MMA’s Alex Welby made short work of their opponents, extending their unbeaten records in the process.

Middlesbrough’s Matthew Batty also stretched his unbeaten record, by dominant first round technical knockout victory.
