Neil Bainbridge can’t wait to get back on track this week after surprising even himself on his Pirelli British Superstock 1000 Championship debut.
Bainbridge, from Hutton Rudby, predicted he’d have a job just to qualify for the race on the support bill of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship opening round at Donington Park.
But qualify he did and went on to finish a highly commendable 19th out of 40 starters.
Now the Kawasaki ZX10R rider is ready to do it all again at Brands Hatch this weekend.
“I made up most of my time at the start and I was only two seconds slower than the leader,” said a delighted Bainbridge.
“I thought there was someone right behind me and I kept pushing right until the end, although when I looked behind me there was nobody there!
“I’m delighted with how it went and I’ve learned a lot too.
“Geoff Crust, who was a Grand Prix team manager, was a great help.
“It’s not just a case of riding the bike - there are a lot more things you have to do.”
In the main event, Guisborough’s Milwaukee Yamaha riders Josh Brookes and Broc Parkes are aiming to build on their opening round performances.
Brookes made an impressive start to the season, scoring the new YZF-R1 its first podium finish in the first race, while Broc Parkes has scored podium finishes at the circuit on a wildcard appearance in the past
“We feel confident for Brands Hatch but we still have to take it day by day,” said Brookes.
